Q1. Where are you from?
Belfast
Q2. Musical influences?
Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bob Marley, David Bowie, Queen, John Martyn and many, many others.
Q3. What’s your song writing process?
Most of my lyrics come to me when I’m out walking, maybe just a line or two to begin with then I try to find the melody on the guitar. Sometimes the guitar melody will come first and the words will follow but the song only takes it’s true form through playing and singing together.
Q4. Most bizarre gig experience?
Without a doubt this has to be performing on the Rising Stars stage last year! I had to travel down to Dublin from Belfast on the morning of the gig and due to traffic jams and road closures I ended up being nearly an hour late for my slot. After a fifteen minute dash through Temple Bar trying to find the venue the lovely people on the production team kindly let me do a 10 minute slot. I didn’t have time to get nervous about playing on the biggest stage I’d ever been on and it was the most enjoyable and memorable gig experience I’ve had to date.
Q5. If you could share the stage with anyone, who would it be and why?
This is a difficult one to answer, because there are so many great artists out there who each have their own styles. Ultimately I suppose I’d love to play with John Martyn just because he’s an amazing songwriter and guitarist.
In her own words…
Singer-songwriter Siobhán Day was born in Belfast into a musical family. At a very early age Siobhan learnt to play the keyboard and tin whistle, but she first picked up the guitar at the age of 13 which would be the beginnings of a very passionate affair with words and music.
Her songs could be described as folk in that they tell stories about life, written and sung from the heart with a soft rock/pop twist .She started gigging around Belfast in early 2010 and since then she has performed live on the Rising Stars stage in Dublin’s Meeting House Square; provided support for local artists in Laverys Bar in Belfast and elsewhere; formed her own promotions agency ‘L.E.D Promotions’ with another fellow songwriter; and had her song ‘Help’ reach Number 4 in the N.I Chart.
Siobhán is currently working on getting into the studio to record her first EP with a lot of positive interest in her work and exciting plans for the year ahead. You can catch her live in coffee shops, pubs, singer-songwriter nights, and charity events in and around Belfast city centre.
