Q1. Where are you from?
Collectively, Skerries in North County Dublin. However Mooneytunes originally hails from Glasnevin North, Dublin 11.
Q2. Musical influences?
Varies greatly as between the members the band have such diverse tastes . Influences are drawn from many genres including reggae, rock, soul and hip-hop as well as international and traditional styles.
Q3. What’s your song writing process?
Usually a member of the band will bring a piece partially or even completely written to a jam session. From there everyone listens to the song and begins to write their own piece of the melody. The initial structure and/or lyrics of a song may be brought in by one person, however once it is brought to the band the creative process is 100% collective.
Q4. Most bizarre gig experience?
We’ve been quite lucky as far as bizarre experiences go however we did have one occasion where the stage decided to dance too. Whatever way it was built the vibrations from the drum kit made it bounce with the beat. It was quite the experience!
Q5. If you could share the stage with anyone, who would it be and why?
The Ukulele Orchestra & The Easy Star All Stars. Together. Because it would be a spectacular combination of genres, artists and instruments.
In their own words
Dublin based Irish/Rock/Reggae band Dem Fools began life in 2009 as a 3 piece act comprising of Ais (Vocalist), Jill (Ukulele & Harmonist) and Mooney Tunes (on Keys). It was late 2010 when it was decided the sound deserved a new angle and in came lifelong friends Fergus (Rhythm) and Gerry (Guitars) to join the team.
Dem Fools have had toes tappin’ and feet movin’ at such venues and events as Whelans, The Ruby Sessions, Dimestore Recordings, and The Sunday Roast amongst others. The media has also began to take note with the band having appeared on both West Dublin Access Radio (WDAR) 96fm and Dublin’s Radio Nova in recent weeks.
Dem Fools are a lively, unique and original band that thoroughly enjoy performing. Their flare infects the crowd to create an upbeat atmosphere throughout their set. They combine their many influences which include rock, folk, and reggae with a love of creating music to produce a sound which is definably theirs.
To see for yourself upcoming appearances include an slot at the Síbin Festival and a soon to be aired spot on Balcony TV. Dem Fools have also just completed their Demo EP which is available at gigs ![]()
