Q1. Where are you from?
From the streets of Dublin (Adam,Darren,Dean) to the fields of Poland (Paul)
Q2. Musical influences?
Our influences come from a wide variety of artists across the decades such as –
Led Zeppelin, Rory Gallagher, Deep Purple, Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Rainbow, Jeff Buckley, SRV, ELO, Peter Green, Joe Bonamassa, BB King, RHCP, Them Crooked Vultures, The Raconteurs etc
Q3. What’s your song writing process?
It usually differs from song to song but the most common occurrence would for one of us (usually Adam) to come up with a guitar riff and work from there. The lyrics usually emerge from some strange event or observation most often made by Darren.
Q4. Most bizarre gig experience?
Not a gig as such but when we were going through the singer audition phase a couple of years ago we had some very strange experiences. Most of the guys were normal but there were a few strange ones
For example.
- One guy got a bit too much into the music and started pouring his bottle of club orange over his head
- One guy came up dressed as Edward Scissorhands
- One guy had an OCD with the number 8 and demanded all EQ and Volume setting be at number 8 on the amps/PA.Our drummer at the time had 8 letters in his name which he seemed very pleased with.
- One guy only did spoken word and “spoke” sweet child of mine rather than sang it.
- One guy had no English and did a cover of “Wadda hoe lodda low” by Led Zeppelin
All good fun. Just wish we had a camcorder handy.
Q5. If you could share the stage with anyone, who would it be and why?
Jimmy Page …he’s a living legend.
In their own words
Achilles are an original 4 piece rock band from Dublin. The band formed in 2007 when the previous band of Adam (lead guitar) and Dean (bass) was to be no more. Since then they have dedicated huge amounts of time and energy into the search for what they deem the perfect lineup. 67 (yes 67!) singer auditions and 14 drummer auditions later and Achilles was complete with the addition of Darren on vocals/rhythm guitar and Paul on drums.
With the tedious 2 year search for the perfect lineup a success Achilles set straight to work. From 2010 – present the band have been concentrating on writing and fine tuning their live performances to deliver a razor sharp rock show. All band members are highly experienced and competent musicians and have unparalleled dedication/commitment and passion for music.
Following a number of successful shows in 2010, Achilles are determined to raise the bar for 2011
At present Achilles are in the process of recording their debut album. The time and effort is an ongoing yet easy endeavor as the passion for music outweighs everything else.
